Mission and Objectives

The Biopolitics International Organisation (B.I.O.) was founded by Professor Agni Vlavianos Arvanitis out of the urgent need to raise awareness of environmental problems, and to accelerate the implementation of new and more effective approaches to safeguarding the earth for the generations to come.
The term “biopolitics” was created out of love for biology and the belief that bios – life – is a link that unites all people. With friends and representatives in 165 countries around the world, B.I.O. has been one of the fastest growing environmental organizations. Focusing on the development of international policy – biopolicy – to guarantee global environmental harmony and just economic growth, B.I.O. has dedicated a major portion of its work to the promotion of the fundamental human right to live in a clean environment.
Furthermore, in strong belief that education holds the key to our future, B.I.O. has launched a pioneer environmental education program, beyond the confines of conventional environmental science, with the aim of achieving environmentally-literate global citizens. Within this framework, respect for the environment and all forms of life becomes the major component of every academic and professional initiative.
The International University for the Bio-Environment (I.U.B.E.), an international Environmental Olympics campaign, a long list of publications on global environmental policy issues, as well as a series of educational programs, conferences and special events have, over the past thirty years, defined the Biopolitics International Organisation. It is our hope that, as you get to know us through these pages, you too will chose to join us in our effort to make this world a better place for the future.

General Information
We are a group of individuals that has worked since 2007, along with other organizations, within the framework of the informal group, NGO Initiative, which ceased its operations on April 2018. We decided to register a new organization, as a foundation, called Civil Society Advocates, in order to continue and expand the work we are doing. The foundation is was established by 4 founders that also comprise the Board of Directors.   The organization has no paid staff. In terms of partners, it has developed, through the years, a wide network of national partner organisations throughout the island. In a European level the organization is mentored by the European Center for non-for-profit law (ECNL) and has worked with the INGO Conference of the Council of Europe. In the past it has received funding by UNDP-ACT and is currently, modestly funded, by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Cyprus (total funds: 2500 euros). It’s activities include lobbying and advocacy, the organization of workshops, seminars and consultations, as we well the drafting of policy and practical papers.
Mission and Objectives

Civil Society Advocates aims to empower civil society organizations and improve the institutional environment in which they operate.
Civil Society Advocates works on policies and laws that aim at enhancing the influence of civil society organizations on issues of public dialogue and showcasing the important role these organizations have. In addition, it supports, through educational and other programs, civil society organizations on issues like lobbying and advocacy, good governance, strategic planning and fundraising.

Main Projects / Activities

Better implementation of law on Associations & Foundations: Identify and point out problems, establishment of Regulations for the law, seminars and workshops for registered organizations affected by the law (how to implement, how to comply), advice to registered organizations and organizations that want to register, publication of a Guide for already registered NGOs and groups that want to register
Participation in consultations about draft laws for the acquisition of status as a public Benefit Organisation and social enterprise.
Combatting Restrictions on Civic Freedoms Arising From Counter-terrorism & Anti-money Laundering Rules: Limitations by banks and over regulation by governmental bodies
Policy: Drafted Policy Paper ‘Civil Society in Cyprus: Building for the Future’ that is now used as a government policy

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are proponents of synergies, well founded and documented public dialogue, consultation and debating as ways to influence policy makers, empower civil society organizations and improve public perceptions of NGOs . We can contribute to the Network in our country through our expertise as an organization and as individuals on these issues. We aim to be active members of the network, because we believe in the community it provides and the value of the dialogue ALF promotes.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

One of our main aims also of the organization is to  operate, apart from Cyprus, to the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean countries), since we  consider that collaborations and the exchange of knowledge, practices and experiences of members of civil society can vaccinate and create new ideas that will strengthen the wider civil society and bring about positive social change.

General Information
Ojalá Projects is born from a group of university teachers with the anxiety to innovate in the education field generating experiences to the students that promote the empowerment of groups in a high risk of social exclusion.  Our area of intervention is global. Through the workshops we propose a national, European or international immersion (depending on the case we work) in which students are offered to a vital experience in a field that presents a crisis or conflicts.  In this context, multidisciplinary groups are formed that carry out tasks that include training, working in the field, international cooperation and development of creative projects that have a direct return with the group we work for.
Mission and Objectives

Our aim is to introduce some social and cultural values by generating pieces of creation made by university students from in all disciplines of creativity and art to make the diffusion of realities that are no far from us and raise their awareness to guarantee their personal and professional growth.

Main Projects / Activities

Ojalá Projects started when a graphic designer called Anaïs, decided to paint a mural on the outside walls of the 5th school squat (abandoned centres that have been occupied by refugees and migrants) in Exarchia neighbourhood, in the middle of Athens. The mural shows a labyrinth that starts with the word “Hope” and very complicated loops cross over each other until they reach the word “make”. They then begin to simplify towards the final word “future”. This metaphor reminds them that the road is only easier if you try to make it yourself.
There are 3 roads represented by different colours that cross the main white road lead by the refugee kid; the Brown one is the road from Turkey to Greece; the blue one is the journey across the greek sea and the grey one reflects the road they take from Athens to the Balkans. A red background at the beginning is their past and the war they have come from, the middle yellow background is their present in Greece, and lastly, the blue towards the end represents their freedom.
This year, Ojalá Projects has carried out a workshop called "Re-creating the Refuge", which aimed at the creative immersion of students of psychology, dramatic art and communication with the refugees who reside in the centre of Athens.
The students had to face the constant instability of the refugees and motivate them to feel part and participants of the projects. All projects have been directed, conducted and edited by the students. In one week the students, co-working with the young non-accompanied migrants had created the We are all refugees letter, a song where they talk about their histories. Some cinema and art dramatic students recorded the video clip. A music student made the base of the song.
At the same time, other cinema students had recorded the 5th School Squat video, where they were showing how the refugees are organized in the squats in a moment where the government was treating them to evict the centre to return to the refugee camps.
Finally, we made some investigation of pregnant women that live in a self-organized building. Recording and talking to them, we decide to make a documentary about it, cause we realized that when we talk about refugees, we are only thinking in a general way. During the week the same week as the other projects, two journalism students have recorded the teaser of the documentary that we finally recorded this July 2019 and it is still in process.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

All the pieces me try to make with the students serve us as an instrument to give an answer to a social making it visible in the social field through conferences, workshops and conferences in schools and higher centres.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Because we believe in Ojalá as an organic project that can contribute alongside other associations or entities to promote the global and social change that surrounds us. We find that there is no point in fighting for your account when what matters is at stake and it affects us all. For that reason, we think that the Anna Lindh Foundation can help us to be known and empower our projects as well as listening to what people aware of social issues do.

General Information
iiDebate is a non-profit, whose mission is to develop next generation of civic leaders, activists and change agents by giving young people the opportunity to actively participate in the political process. By opening up spaces for democratic education and youth participation in schools and government, we strive to prioritize the needs of low-income youth and under-resourced schools and regions.iiDebate has a board of advisors composed by our supporters from different iNGOs, Partners or other. We also have three executive board members and 12 staff members. Finally we also have our chapters in 7 regions managed by executive board in each local chapter and volunteers part of "iiDebate Innovation & Research Center". We manage every year more than 150K$ and we have different projects mainly focusing on:  Education reform program: using debate as a tool to integrate it part of the educational system, also through our IRCs that represent the HUBs inside educational institutions  Rehabilitation program: By working in prison's, areas with very high rate of violence and through our Drabzeen Academy we try to train trainers who can impact their local communities through knowledge sharing  Community resilience: In this program we use all the scientific approaches to reach the youth community resilience in rural and vulnerable areas. Our approach is based on "People Development Model" and "Community Youth Mapping".
Mission and Objectives

Through iiDebate work we want to create an alternative platform for non-formal education that can be used in all the institutions, centers of training and center of rehabilitation. We see young people as the main power for any change we want to reach however the tools and the current mentality is always limited by the classic approach. Our objectives are:
1/ Integrate debate part the school system
2/ Make all organization experts in debate through a capacity building program and integrate it as part of their activities
3/ Create a platform for exchange of opportunities between young people

Main Projects / Activities

Cafe Talk: Café Talk is about organizing open discussions in Cafes. We aim to bring young people together by giving them the space to discuss and debate about topics they feel concerned about.  We believe that having powerful conversations is the first step to improve our communities and make change.
Tounsi W Nghayer:
it’s an incubator project that aims at promoting youth initiatives in Tunisia all within a vivid competition frame set around an exciting gaming theme.
Tounsi W Nghayer is launched in 6 different regions across Tunisia; Tunis, Bizerte, Sfax, Gabes, Gafsa and Sidi Bouzid. The competition is an election simulation process for young people to discover the basics of civic education and why elections is important in our daily life. The competition also aims to solve an issue matter or develop the community /governorate they are in. This election simulation was first organised in 2016 reaching more than 200 participants, today it is executed in Tunisia in more than 6 regions and it targetted more than 200 participants.
Drabzeen Academy Tunisia: Since human development is the process of enlarging people’s capacities and potentials, the Drabzeen Tunisian Academy envisages contributing in this endeavor through training learners on several areas of thought, knowledge and skills. Through this intended development, learners will be enabled to be efficiently active in their communities on the one hand, and to embark in their professional career while equipped with the necessary knowledge and modern skills on the other hand. Indeed, capacity building has become a major ambition for learners, mostly youth, considering the ongoing and rapid evolvement of societies and employability requirements. It is a key element for taking an active, leading role in social change.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We were part of ALF through Young Arab voices before and through UNESCO, and we saw what ALF is doing in the region with a great impact and large network. Today; we believe that joining the network could very interesting to share our expertise in debate or teaching through creative methods. Also, to reach a new level of applying democracy in a country where everything is possible nowadays. Also, part of our decentralization process, we would like to make our big network of more than 10000 people to hear about the opportunities and share it with them.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Joining ALF could be very impacful for iIDebate in term of networking, in term of scale up our work, in term of scaling up our programs and finances as many activities from which iID is working are on the same scope of work of ALF. Finally, IIDebate is working also mainly on debate and collaborating with the YMV could be very interesting in inetgrating the debate education part of the educational program.

Learn with Grandma is an international network with – currently - 49 Facebook groups around the world promoting Intergenerational Learning & Active Ageing. The main aim is share ideas of how to use the internet as a bridge to reunite the generations and help break down the digital age gap by sharing skills; love & knowledge across the generations. Good projects are happening in many countries.
Mission and Objectives

LwG is my retirement project; I fund it.  I speak at many conferences in UK & abroad; This year I have spoken at 5 conferences in Slovinia; Poland (twice) Moldova & UK. I suggest intergenerational activities that are Achievable; Affordable and Sustainable! I have inspired many projects. Here is an example.    .

Main Projects / Activities

While I was in Uganda in 2014 - I was a speaker at the big international e-learning Africa Conference - I realized that most Teachers could not afford to attend. So I suggested a post-conference seminar. It was held at Trinity College Nabingo in the school hall. The objective was  to spread the lessons learnt to headteachers throughout Uganda. It was very successful. Ugandan Teachers decided to make this an annual event. We are now preparing for the 5th Annual conference – now supported by the Ministry of Education

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

I cannot contribute in UK - the organisers do Nothing in Wales. They are primarily concerned with their own projects. I have not been told of any meetings this year. Last year there were 2 meetings one in London the other in Manchester both a long journey from Wales. I have asked that a meeting could be held in Wales or in England but near to Wales. They did not reply.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

What I am achieving could be of great value to ALF.
Dr.Nabil Al Sharif | Executive Director Anna Lindh Foundation wrote - It would be my pleasure to be in direct touch with you and see you if you come to Alexandria - Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to settle on a convenient date.

General Information
KA.DER is a women's organization which advocates equal representation of women and men in all fields of life. KA.DER sees equality between women and men in all elected and appointed decision making bodies, where decisions concerning the society and the individuals are made, as a matter of democracy. Women in Turkey have established their presence in different fields of social life. However, in top management positions and especially in politics, women are still too far away from being equally represented. KA.DER was established in March 1997 with a mission to eliminate inequality, to provide participation of all citizens in decisions, and to bring women's experience and resolution ability into social and political arenas. KA.DER strives to increase the representation rate of women in all decision making bodies, both elected and appointed.
Mission and Objectives

Considering the political arena's determinative feature on social life, KA.DER defines ensuring equal representation, primarily in politics, as its main objective. Equal representation ensured in the political field will pave the way for equality between women and men in all fields. KA.DER has 5 branches and 4 representations across the country. KA.DER head office is located in Istanbul.

Main Projects / Activities
