Fields of Activity
  1. Youth and education
General Information
ACEV focuses on early childhood education, parent training and women's empowerment programs for the empowerment of the disadvantaged communities. It has a total of 71 full time staff with 40 in Istanbul headquarters and 31 in 6 field offices. ACEV also has 109 part-time field specialists that have supervised and trained a network of 8500 trainers who reach the end beneficiaries through the program implementations. Private funders provide a third of ACEV's annual operating budget. Over half of ACEV’s income is derived from local corporate funders. International grant funding is less than 10% and the remainder is through individual donations. For the implementation of programs at national level, ACEV partners with Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Family and Social Affairs. ACEV also collaborates with organizations in 13 countries that have already been implementing ACEV's programs.
Mission and Objectives

Founded in 1993, ACEV's mission is to provide equal opportunity in education to all by targeting the groups in society that are most severely impacted by lack of access to educational services.
In order to reach these groups, ACEV develops and implements programs and advocacy campaigns in its two main areas of expertise: early childhood and adult education.
ACEV also addresses cross-cutting issues or works in related sectors such as such as gender equality, functional literacy, access to basic education, and health care.
To date, AÇEV has reached nearly 700,000 individuals (plus 8,500 trainers) through its direct training programs and 8,000,000 viewers through television programs aimed at children, families, and illiterate women.
In total ACEV has reached an estimated 45,000,000 people through publications, research, and mass-media public awareness advocacy activities.

Main Projects / Activities

ACEV has centered its work on two main areas of expertise: early childhood and adult education. Guided by the principle of equal education opportunities for all, ACEV implements a broad range of integrated and complementary activities serving the principal goal of individual empowerment and societal development through education and lifelong learning.
In order to achieve these goals ACEV develops and implements education programs which empower the family, provides early childhood education, parenting and literacy/women’s support programs using a variety of models and mediums (ranging from face-to-face training modules to distance education via TV and web-based sources), delivers high quality trainer training and provides effective and systematic in-the-field support and supervision to trainers in order to maintain quality and consistency while scaling-up its programs.
ACEV also leads and participates awareness raising and policy-building activities on the issues of early childhood and adult education. The expertise in community based parent training and early childhood activities that the foundation has developed in Turkey has been recognized by the international community. Thus, ACEV also partners with UNESCO, ECOSOC, Consultative Group, Harvard and Yale University.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

In Turkey, the development of interaction and communication among civil society and universities is crucial for sustainability and empowerment of the projects which aim to support the development of peace, education, human rights etc. ACEV, as Turkey-based NGO, will be able to contribute to the development of dialogue and partnerships among the members of ALF network and also support the corporate development and institutionalization of ALF Network of Turkey by using its previous experiences.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

ACEV has developed cost-effective early childhood programs that empower the role of parents as “first educators” of their child in supporting social, emotional, cognitive and physical development. ACEV programs are also included important learning outcomes related to the current social problems such as elimination of domestic violence, gender inequality, and child protection. Thus, ACEV intends to use the network of ALF to expand its scientifically grounded early childhood programs to support the development of peaceful societies. While ACEV’s programs have been implemented on a small scale in several other countries, the ALF network will enable the implementation of an international strategy through establishing new country partnerships.

General Information
Mus Kadin Dernegi (Mus Women Association) was founded by a group of women in 2009 in Mus city of Turkey. It is a feminist organisation and adopts non-hierarchical/feminist method. Now, it has 68 members. As Mus Kadın Derneği, we primarily aim to prevent marriage of young girls and honour killings which are still important problems in rural and urban areas in Mus. We organise trainings and workshops on against violence against women and women's human rights. Our participants are women from different backgrounds. On the other hand we try to support women's economic development in every possible way we could and therefore we organise occupational trainings to empower women in labour market or to encourage them to start a business. We run a counselling centre which is also working as helpline. We receive 5 applications as phone calls or as in-person each day on average. We support women who have been through domestic violence. Our volunteers meet women in the counselling centre, we signpost them to other organisations that they can get legal, medical or physiological help or shelter services. Our counselling centre is open every day between 09:00 am and 18:00 pm. Some of our activities as follow: We have launched a free computer training programme with one of the IT companies in Turkey and although we planned to give training to 100 women, we received 227 applications, so all of them finished the training. We had a campaign on against violence against women, called “If Women Smiles, the World Smiles”. We had an awareness rising workshops in villages of Mus. We were supported by volunteers (1 attorney and 2 specialists). The campaign was also funded by Global Dialogue. We aimed to raise awareness against stereotypes of gendered roles in a patriarchal society and to work towards violence free society. We published leaflets with helpline information, had coverage on local televisions and newspapers. So we achieved to make the violence against women visible partly in Mus. We have started an awareness rising campaign on breast cancer in villages of Mus and Bitlis cities. Dr. Nedime Kosgeroglu, a specialist, also worked with us. We gave some basic trainings for early detection of illness such as “how to examine yourself for breast cancer”. We had a successful “Free Fitness and Sports Courses for Women” campaign in Mus city. We received 980 applications. For those who came to the courses we also had small awareness rising meetings on women’s rights, violence against women, breast cancer etc. In accordance with our priorities, one of our future projects is to launch a new campaign against early marriages of young women and we like to support this campaign with the counselling centre. Therefore we are looking for support and funding for capacity building. We’d be glad if you could inform us about the support we may get from your organisation.
