Since its inception in 1994, Stubnitz has been and remains a unique cross-cultural project of its kind, committed to the research and documentation of the contemporary music and performance art across different European regions, for the benefit of the artists, their audiences and cultural exchange.
As a kind of “Culture Ark”, it is our mission to chronicle the innovation and diversity of contemporary youth culture and communicate it to the present and future generations.
Doing so, we keep the maritime cultural heritage of Stubnitz the ship, and the millennia-old tradition of maritime cultural exchange alive and accessible to the people.
Since 1994 Stubnitz has visited 15 different ports across 10 European countries, researching and presenting innovative youth culture and forming partnerships with local culture organizations and promoters. More than 430 000 people have attended more than 1500 events hosted by Stubnitz. More than 3000 live performances by artists from 30 countries all over the world have been documented and preserved in an on-board audio/video archive. Each performance is recorded by 2-3 cameras, live
mix and biophonic audio equipment, then edited and catalogued in an on-board multi-media lab.
Stubnitz maintains a file server and a web site where fragments of this vast archive material are now gradually being offered for public viewing.
