General Information

The Association for Education and Integration "EDU-AKTIV PLUS" Bitola, established by seven teachers from “Gorgi Sugarev” Primary School, focuses on improving the quality of life and rights access for all children, especially Roma, children with special needs, and socially neglected children while considering gender, age, and urban/rural divides. The NGO collaborates with parents, local communities, service providers, and government entities to foster comprehensive educational approaches and fight against segregation and discrimination. Their strategic goals include promoting democracy, human rights, youth activism, cultural heritage, and inclusive education. Key staff members possess extensive experience in education, multicultural projects, special needs education, and international collaboration. The organization aims to contribute to systemic policy changes, provide professional development, and participate in initiatives like the Erasmus Plus project to enhance inclusion and educational quality.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Association for Education and Integration "EDU-AKTIV PLUS" Bitola is to develop and implement inclusive projects that benefit all citizens, regardless of gender, age, religion, nationality, or disability. The Association aims to raise awareness about societal needs and issues, providing information, counseling, and education. Its strategic goals include promoting democracy, human rights, acceptance of marginalized groups, and organizing informal education for youth and special needs individuals. The organization focuses on youth opportunities, fostering cooperation, humanitarian actions, volunteerism, and global and EU integration discussions. It aims to enhance entrepreneurial skills, cultural heritage, and artistic expression while supporting professional development and tolerance among children and youth. The Association addresses the needs of vulnerable groups through targeted programs and community awareness, promoting good governance, social cohesion, and regional cooperation. It collaborates with other entities to enhance education, encourage membership development, and support teachers' professional knowledge.

Main Projects / Activities

Experience and Competences of Key Staff for the Project Daniela Lavurovska: An English language and literacy professor with 20 years of teaching experience. She has spent over a decade as a project coordinator and school board president at "George Sugarev" Primary School in Bitola. She organized a significant intercultural exchange in Switzerland, supported by the Pestalozzi Foundation, which fostered students’ education on anti-discrimination and children’s rights through teamwork. Irena Milenkovska: A German language teacher with 7 years of experience, she engages in extracurricular activities promoting multiculturalism and has collaborated with the Society for Macedonian-German Friendship in Bitola. Irena supervises student cultural exchanges in Switzerland and focuses on developing students' teamwork and well-being. Daniela Ristova: With 15 years of experience as a Geography teacher, she has led students to success in state competitions. She is involved in projects to enhance multicultural cooperation and has organized activities promoting multiculturalism among Roma, Macedonian, and Albanian students. MA Jasminka Sekulova: An English teacher with 18 years of experience, Jasminka has participated in numerous educational technology projects and coordinated international collaborations with Swedish schools, enhancing her expertise in digital content and innovative teaching methods. Dr. Aneta Hristova: A special educator with 25 years of experience, she specializes in educating children with special needs. Aneta has contributed to research and training on education and rehabilitation for vulnerable groups and has been involved in improving programs for Roma education and inclusive education. As an association, "EDU-AKTIV PLUS" aims to leverage these experiences to participate in the Erasmus Plus project, focusing on fostering inclusion and comprehensive educational improvements. Оur NGO also collaborates with parents, local communities, service providers, and other institutions, including local and national governments, in an effort to approach education comprehensively. We have an excellent collaboration with the other local NCOs such as : Sfera, Semper, Bairska svetlina, MKC,Geosfera, the local municipality etc. Experience has demonstrated that such broad-based coalitions are necessary for success. In collaboration with other NGOs, our aim is to mobilize all the will and resources for systemic policy changes that work against segregation and all forms of discrimination.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

The Association for Education and Integration "EDU-AKTIV PLUS" Bitola can significantly contribute to the network in North Macedonia by leveraging our extensive experience in inclusive education, multiculturalism, and community engagement. We can utilize our expertise in working with marginalized groups, such as Roma children and those with special needs, to advocate for inclusive policies and share best practices for inclusive education across the network. Through our successful projects in promoting intercultural dialogue and cooperation, we can contribute to the network by organizing workshops and seminars that highlight the importance of cultural diversity and tolerance. We can leverage our established partnerships with local NGOs, schools, and government entities to foster collaborative initiatives, share resources, and create a stronger, united front for educational and social reform. We can share our experience in project coordination and advocacy to influence policy-making and promote systemic changes that benefit vulnerable populations. By Conducting training sessions and sharing our educational methodologies and tools to empower other network members and enhance their capacities in inclusive education and community support.
