Online networking sessions: Albania-Luxembourg-Lebanon-Morocco-Denmark

Image
online session

The online networking sessions between Albania-Luxembourg-Lebanon-Morocco and Denmark brought together about 50 network members from all partner countries to discuss common challenges and generate ideas for cooperation.

The sessions took place on December 18 and 20 and were organised by the Albanian Media Institute (HoN in Albania), in partnership with Our Common Future (HoN Luxembourg), @Agir ensemble (HoN Morocco) and Lebanese National Commission for Unesco (HoN Lebanon).

The purpose of these sessions was to build bridges for cooperation between members of the ALF network from the North and South Mediterranean.

The hearings found that challenges facing members across countries are similar and this is the first step to forming synergies and joint action among them.

The major thematic areas identified from both sessions related to youth engagement and participation, gender equality/gender-based violence, diversity and human rights, polarisation and hateful language, and media education.

Following the sessions, the Head of the Network in Albania launched a call for proposals that participating members can apply and address some of the common challenges identified.

General Information

Radio ARA is an independent, non-commercial radio station that has been operating in Luxembourg as a community radio station since 1992, initially serving alternative communities such as environmental, feminist and LBGQ groups, as well as specific music communities. Radio ARA consists of three not for profit organisations, one of which is ARA International Community Radio asbl.

Mission and Objectives

Access to information without language barriers is essential for everyone, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine has shown us that no small community should be forgotten. There are volunteers who currently work on our multilingual show project and we have identified others who are willing to work with us, alongside Ryse and Passerell asbl on this new Podcast Project. We will create an Outreach Platform where we host small 3.5-minute podcasts in different languages. Each podcast offers bitesize accurate information that will help vulnerable people understand and navigate the situation they find themselves in and where they are in the legal process. We believe the access to accurate information will alleviate much of the stress and misunderstanding that occurs, in this way alleviating potential tensions that may arise for society. Much of the development within Radio ARA in the past years has been due to changes in Luxembourg as a society, and it is important to recognise the support we have received from Oeuvre and the important work we have achieved since the first the Salaam Show, then through the addition of the multilingual shows is extremely important and valued by many in Luxembourg. Our integration projects have been pivotal in stabilising and solidifying Radio ARA’s role as a community radio for all in Luxembourg.
