As far as budgetary costs are concerned, in 2013 the budget was approximately 20.000 EUR and in 2012 it was 240.000 EUR (due to the EU presidency).
The main sources of funding are: TRIALOG V, CONCORD subcontract for AidWatch and membership fees. The main expenses are on Human Resources, Project related expenses and CONCORD membership fees.
The ‘Development’ is involved in Development Cooperation and Development Educational Programs mainly coordinated via the TRIALOG V project and CONCORD.
The main Missions of the Platform are :
•working for the post -2015 framework
•Linking members to the Platform
•Revising the platform strategy of which is mainly aims to promote sustainability, contextualization of global issues, the shape of policies and decisions and the promotion of Cyprus as a Regional Hub for MENA region.
During 2014 the main events which were organized were some successful roundtables on sustainable development, the successful completion of the Presidency Project , and the recognition of the Platform as a legitimate actor by the government.
The ‘Development’ is currently undertaking two projects funded by the European Union. The first one is CONCORD which is the European NGDO federation and brings together all national platforms under a common strategy. The second one is Trialog which is specifically focused on EU 13 members .
The NGDO Platform ‘Development’ is a member of CYINDEP, which a member of the European NGO Confederation for Relief and Development, (CONCORD). CYINDEP is the national platform of development NGOs which represents Cyprus at the European Union level and thus can strengthen the Network. Moreover, CYINDEP has long been active in trying to bring the two communities together and is trying to capture the specific needs and requests of the two civil societies. CYINDEP represents 25 NGOs and has as members the 2 constituent platforms on the island (one in the Greek Cypriot community and one in the Turkish Cypriot community).
The Anna Lindh foundation acts as a network of networks of the 35 civil societies forming the Euro-Mediterranean partnership. Thus, Cyprus should be considered as a new member for the network for it is a Mediterranean country, an EU member state and a country which has been known for its problematic political situation, being formed by divided communities. One of the ‘Development’s main goals is to promote itself as a Regional Hub for MENA region. Thus during this attempt, strong affiliations with the ALF network could act as a powerful tool for Cyprus. Also, the platform will be largely benefited from any future collaboration with ALF since it will be enjoying its trainings, coordination meetings, direct organization of events, visibility actions and the foundation can acts as a facilitator between the different members of the ‘Development’.
