General Information

European Мovement in the Republic of North Macedonia (EMMK) is part of the European Мovement International, and since its establishment in 2002, has been working on the affirmation of the country within the European public space. In different periods, the focus of interest adapts to the dynamic environment, always remaining within the framework of the basic corpus of values, which are: democracy, peace, fundamental rights, justice, freedom, and activities for a better understanding of the factors of discussion. EMMK has 50 active members, 3 employed and more than 20 volunteers.

The budgetary resources available fluctuate on an annual basis, however they are usually around 65000 euros. The key activities that EMMK implements are: National Convention for the European Union in the North Republic (NCEU-MK), Marking of Europe Day - the 9th of May, and organising coffee debates.

Our projects are financed by the Delegation of the EU, USAID, Slovakiad and Kingdom of Netherlands (via MATRA framework).

Mission and Objectives

All activities, starting from 2002 until today, have the mission of affirming European values among Macedonian citizens and, through various civic initiatives, to involve them in the construction of a society based on democratic principles and social justice. In the last five years, our activities were aimed at achieving a higher level of citizen involvement in the European integration processes.

This mission, apart from increasing inclusiveness in the Euro-integration process itself, contributes to the dynamism of reforms in several sectors (judiciary and administration of justice, security, environment, social policy and employment, agriculture and rural development).

Main Projects / Activities

1. National Convention on the European Union in the Republic of North Macedonia. NCEU-MK is a civic platform for an inclusive and transparent dialogue for the democratization of the EU integration process of the Republic of Macedonia. According to its working methodology, NCEU-MK includes in the dialogue the representatives of relevant institutions (Government, ministries, judicial institutions, state agencies), MPs in the Assembly of North Macedonia, representatives of civil associations, enterprises, chambers, trade unions and other professional public). The influence of NKEU-MK in the democratization of society can be seen through the dialogue itself, which contributed to building models of participation in society, to increase cooperation between institutions and other stakeholders, making the activities of civil associations visible.

2. Celebrating Europe Day. From its establishment (1991) until today, EMMK commemorates May 9, the Day of Europe, every year with suitable activities. For more than 20 years, it has maintained the tradition of awarding the "European Person of the Year" award to distinguished persons who promote the Republic of North Macedonia in the European space.
3. Educational programs for youth inclusion. A project for the education of high school students entitled "Knowing about Europe – we learn more about us" has been implemented continuously for several years. Also, within the framework of the activities to mark May 9 - Europe Day, numerous activities are carried out (oratory competition, youth debate, quiz competition of knowledge about the EU, painting competition) for the affirmation of European values among primary and secondary school students , as well as for students from larger universities in the country.

FORUM EUROPEUM 2024: CONDITIONING EU INTEGRATION THROUGH RULE OF LAW MECHANISMS

Image
The image shows a conference.A speaker stands at a podium addressing a seated audience, while three panelists are seated on a stage with a large screen behind them. The screen displays the event's title, "Welcoming Remarks," along with the names and photos of the speakers. The audience, composed of men and women, is seated in rows, attentively listening and taking notes on laptops.

In order to ensure continuous dialogue and communication in and between the candidate countries and the EU at different levels on the use of instruments for the rule of law in the context of accession to the EU, EPI organized the traditional Forum Europeum conference, entitled "Instruments for the rule of law in the context of accession to the EU".

The event was opened by the deputy head of the mission in the EU Delegation in North Macedonia, Ben Nupnau, Bojana Bosilkova from the Ministry of Justice and Simonida Kacarska from EPI. They highlighted the most significant developments of the past period, including the entry of four candidate countries from the Western Balkans into the EU rule of law mechanism and the introduction of the Growth Plan for the region. The Growth Plan aims to strengthen financial support for reforms through earmarked funds for reforms and growth. They emphasized the importance of applying the same rule of law standards for both EU member states and candidate countries, seeing it as the basis and goal for EU accession. The renewed momentum for EU enlargement has been described as a strategic investment in peace, with the Growth Plan offering a unique opportunity for regional integration and progress towards joining the single market. The process was noted to be merit-based and reversible, aligning with the new enlargement methodology and recent Council conclusions. Speakers also emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts and internal reforms to successfully navigate the process.

Ivan Novosel from the Human Rights House Zagreb, independent expert Biljana Kotevska, Edo Kanlic from Transparency International Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Jonut Sibijan from the European Economic and Social Committee participated in the panel dedicated to the rule of law as a basis for EU enlargement. The discussion touched on various aspects of the EU's rule of law report, including the need for stronger analytical elements, the feasibility of publishing it every year, the importance of precise language and comprehensive coverage, the role of civil society in the EU accession negotiations and the opportunities brought with the inclusion of civil society representatives from the candidate countries in the activities of the EESC.

The second panel was dedicated to the protection of the rule of law in the use of EU funds and the use of the conditionality mechanism in the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. Laima Lucia Andrikiene from the European Court of Auditors, Mario Holzner from the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, Eulalia Rubio from the Jacques Delors Institute, and Milena Mihajlovic from the Center for European Policy in Belgrade spoke on the panel. The discussion focused on the clarity and definition of conditionality mechanisms, the transformative impact of the Growth Plan, challenges in motivating EU members after accession and the role of civil society in ensuring transparency and accountability in the Growth Plan process.

The event was organized within the project "Building bridges for a common future: The rule of law in the direction of EU accession" implemented by the European Policy Institute (EPI) - Skopje, and financed by the European Union.

General Information

Bidizelen is an organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and education in North Macedonia. Our structure includes a dedicated team of 10 staff members and a network of 15 active partners across various sectors. Our budget is sourced from government grants, private donations, and project-based funding from international organizations. We implement various modalities of action, including concrete projects focused on environmental awareness, educational exchanges, seminars, and scholarships for youth engagement. Our main partners include local schools, environmental NGOs, and governmental institutions committed to sustainable development.

Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to develop values and principles for sustainable development and to enable education and practical solutions for environmental protection. We aim to foster environmental awareness and sustainability among young people and communities in Republic of North Macedonia, promoting green practices and enhancing ecological education while facilitating active youth participation in environmental initiatives. In addition, our objectives include creating awareness about pressing environmental issues and providing practical tools for sustainable living. We work to build a network of environmentally conscious individuals and organizations, fostering collaboration that amplifies our collective impact. Through advocacy and community engagement, we aim to influence policies that support sustainable practices and environmental education.

Main Projects / Activities

Youth Environmental Activism: This initiative aims to empower young people to engage in environmental activism by providing them with the tools and resources needed to advocate for change. Bidizelen organizes training sessions and campaigns that equip youth with knowledge about pressing environmental issues and effective advocacy strategies. Participants are encouraged to develop their own projects or campaigns that address local environmental challenges, helping to cultivate a new generation of informed and active environmental leaders. Educational Exchanges: Bidizelen facilitates educational exchanges that enable students and teachers to learn from each other while exploring different approaches to environmental education. These exchanges provide opportunities for participants to visit different regions, engage with peers, and share best practices in sustainability. By fostering cross-cultural dialogue, these exchanges aim to enhance the understanding of global environmental challenges and encourage collaborative solutions. Community Clean-Up Campaigns: Bidizelen organizes community clean-up campaigns to address litter and pollution in local areas. These campaigns invite community members of all ages to join together to clean parks, rivers, and other public spaces. In addition to the physical clean-up, participants receive education about the impact of waste on the environment and the importance of maintaining clean surroundings. The campaigns aim to foster community spirit and awareness while promoting collective responsibility for the local ecosystem. Each event concludes with a discussion on sustainable waste management practices to ensure that participants understand how to reduce waste in the future. The EU Youth Cinema: Green Deal is a dynamic initiative that combines film and environmental education to engage young people in conversations about sustainability and climate action. This project organizes film screenings that highlight important environmental issues, followed by interactive discussions to foster awareness and inspire action among youth. The initiative hosts film screenings in various locations, bringing together students and educators to watch carefully selected European films that address themes such as climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable living. After each screening, participants engage in facilitated discussions that allow them to share their thoughts and learn from guest speakers, including environmental activists and experts in sustainability. The Clean Airdrom: Zero Solid Waste Municipality project is a transformative initiative aimed at creating a sustainable and clean environment in the Airdrom area. This project addresses the pressing issues of waste management and air quality by promoting a zero-waste approach that encourages responsible waste disposal and recycling among community members. The initiative involves various activities designed to educate and engage the community on the importance of reducing waste. Workshops and seminars are organized to inform residents about effective waste separation, composting, and recycling practices. Community members are encouraged to participate in local clean-up days, where they can actively contribute to maintaining clean public spaces. Round Table with key stakeholders on youth policies and implementation of the Law on Youth Participation and Youth Policies in RS. Macedonia.

August 21, 2024, Coalition of Youth Organizations SEGA held a Round Table with key stakeholders on youth policies and implementation of the Law on Youth Participation and Youth Policies in RS. Macedonia. SEGA presented the findings of the Impact Analysis of the Law on Youth Participation and Youth Policies and discussed all the challenges in applying the Law more than 4 years after its adoption.

At this event, most of the participants were young parliamentarians. Today, we received strong support and understanding for the needs of amendments to the Law on Youth Participation and Youth Policies, which we have been advocating for more than 1 year with other organizations through a process of consultation with all stakeholders.

The purpose of the round table was to provide final findings and conclusions that indicate the necessity of amendments and additions to the ZMUMP in order to improve its implementation.

The round table was realized within the framework of the project "Youth participation for strong and sustainable development of the community", financed by the European Union, and implemented by the Coalition of youth organizations SEGA in partnership with SOS Children's Village North Macedonia, Volunteer Center Skopje and Women's Association Forum Tetovo.
