Good Practice of ALF LT Network Members

ALF Lithuania Network Members

We are happy to share an update on the good practices that ALF Lithuania Network Members applied recently. Please, find the pictures from the following recent activities we ran:

  1. LITHUANIAN THEATRE, MUSIC AND CINEMA MUSEUM AND COVID 19 QUARANTINE

    Lithuanian Theatre, Music and Cinema Museum like everyone and every institution was hit unexpectedly by COVID 19 quarantine in Lithuania in 2019 spring. We had to learn a lot of new things and to do it immediately.

    Of course, the Museum suffered great losses, we lost our planned visitors, the newly opened exhibition dedicated to Eimuntas Nekrošius "The Square" remained almost unseen by the Museum visitors, because quarantine begun on the day of the planned opening and even after the end of the quarantine, people were still very careful. Facing the reality we decided to present the exhibition online, guided and in 360 degrees that visitor could have the possibility to experience the exhibition atmosphere at least a little bit.

  2. Association "AKTYVISTAI"  (ACTIVISTS)

    Association "Activists" ran a 5-day online project "Human Above All" for professionals from Poland and Lithuania as well as 14 educational events during two weeks in Kaunas.

  3. INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS AT SAMOGITIAN MUSEUM „ALKA“

    The Samogitian Museum „Alka“ is increasingly cooperating in international projects. This year we have already finished 2 year (from 2018 to 2020) „Erasmus+ project: Raising awareness of cultural heritage through crafts“. There we have discovered how can we encourage more people to discover and become interested in cultural heritage. The second project that is still in progress is translation of the book „Telšiai Yizkor book“. In 2020, the year of Vilnius Gaon and Lithuanian Jewish history, in cooperation with the project partners Telšiai municipality, Lithuanian council for culture, Philip and Aldona Shapiro from „Remembering Litvaks Inc.“, David and Barbara B. from Hirschhorn Foundation, the Samogitian Museum "Alka" prepared and is currently implementing the project "Memorial book for the Jewish community of Telšiai.

  4. Create a Puppet, Create Yourself. Theatre for Social Integration

    New methodology working with people for their social integration. The targets may be from different background, different ages and cultures. We were working with the group of “women at a crossroad”- as we called their situation (unemployed, retired, looking for the way to recover after hard situations, to fill their lives with meaningful activities). Flexibility of the method, variety of techniques to use (theatrical etudes, psychodrama techniques, group building exercises, exercises boosting creativity) made the process challenging, interesting and fruitful both for trainers and for participants.  The trust in creativeness of participants led to reach surprising results in the looks of puppets, their characteristics and creating the etude as well.

  5. New ALF member: Lithuania’s National Assembly of Active Mothers (NAMS)

    The National Assembly of Active Mothers (NAMS – www.nams.lt) is an NGO and started fostering a more official dialogue with the Lithuanian government through participation in working groups. Today NAMS is one of the most active and important stakeholders representing the rights, issues and interests of Lithuanian families nationwide.

  6. Festival "LABAS! 2020" overcame the challenges and crossed virtual borders to bring children aged 0-6 a week of diverse activity online (and a little in person!) from 20-27 September in Lithuania.  We made a decision to try to use zoom for one purpose only - to be the portal by which the artist met the kids. We presented four types of experience.

    - Live interactive sessions - on the spot problems needing to be solved in a live session! (dance and theatre);
    Pre-recorded storytelling with arts activities which made the listening interactive, if not live. (storytelling and meditation for babies);
    Live stream performance - YouTube live experiences where the artists did not interact with children and the screen became the live stage for the children. (Music and Theatre performances from Belgium and Germany);
    - Workshops with the leader on screen (visual arts) and the children using the same materials as the artists.

General Information
NGO "House of Europe" consists of a board (3 members) and a bureau (1 full-time and 4 part-time employees). Actively working in spheres of non – formal, civic education and public awareness raising since 1999, it has a wide range of partners from governmental (Ministries of Education and Science, Foreign Affairs) and non – governmental (different national NGO platforms) sectors, as well as national and regional media houses. Concerning thematic aspects of projects already carried out, “House of Europe” has valuable experience while working with topics in connection with Lithuania’s integration into the European Union and its’ transitional experience. During last years, our organization found itself more and more involved in projects with a global dimension, nurturing EU – citizenship and working with development education and awareness raising. Concrete projects: Media4Development; I Know Who I Vote For; Model European Parliament Lithuania. Main sources for our funding are EU funded projects.
Mission and Objectives

Our main goals include raising awareness about European and global processes and empowering active citizenship through various trainings, seminars, public campaigns and research. We have a lot of experience and are highly interested in international cooperation with other NGOs, public institutions, media and other social partners.

Main Projects / Activities

Media4Development (2015 - 2017) is a cooperation between organisations from five new EU member states and two NGOs from old member states. The project intends to give journalists from new member states a chance to learn more about global challenges and development cooperation. Lasting three years, the project will enable journalists to attend thorough trainings and workshops to be able to cover global issues in their work; policy-makers will be invited to round-tables and given updates about development issues through bulletins; the public will be made more aware of EU development cooperation though public events and activities etc.
"I Know Who I Vote For" (2015 - ongoing) is an initiative of Lithuanian youth for transparent and knowledge - based voting. Project consists of roundtables with politicians and monitoring of electoral campaigns at the national and local level.
Model European Parliament (MEP) Lithuania (2003 - ongoing) seeks to educate students about the European Union and current political and social issues in Europe by giving them high quality opportunities to meet and work with their contemporaries from all over Lithuania and/ or EU countries while recreating the work of the European Parliament. "House of Europe" is the official national MEP coordinator appointed by Ministry of Education and Science.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

While working with the aforementioned international project "Media4Development", we started building a network of journalists, NGO activists and private partners interested in further work in developing countries. Some of them already belong to ALF network and some do not, therefore we think that we could successfully act as intermediaries widening ALF network and linking different stakeholders. On one hand, we could introduce Lithuanian media, private enterprises and our partner NGOs with opportunities to work with organizations from the Mediteranean region provided by the foundation. On the other, we could as well help the Lithuanian ALF network to have a more substantial impact in the Lithuanian society, especially through our media partnerships.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

As it was already mentioned, development cooperation and development education are at the top of our priority list. During the first year of  "Media4Development" project it became obvious that to carry our activities properly we need a strong network of lecturers, trainers, partner organizations etc. For that reason, we indulged into research and came to a conclusion that ALF is the network for us not only from a practical standpoint, but value - wise, as well.  What is more, acting as the main network for civic EuroMed cooperation ALF also complements activities that we have already carried out and are planning to do in the near future (documentary about Syrian migrants Lebanon, journalists' study visits to Palestine etc.)

Discussion about the inclusion of foreigners in the culture at the House of Histories exhibition space

On the last day of summer, Aiste Ulubey from the Art agency Artscape moderated a discussion about the inclusion of foreigners in the culture at the House of Histories exhibition space. At Artscape, an arts agency, they work a lot in programs where the biggest problems of inclusion arise, so they always very happy to have a dialogue about the greater role of culture in this topic.
With Dr. Daiva Price and Farah Mohammed talked about why foreigners are still an invisible audience, about the readiness of the cultural ecosystem to open up to foreigners living in Lithuania. As the number of foreigners residing in Lithuania exceeds 7% of the total population, these issues become more and more relevant.
Diversity Development Group - thank you for the invitation☀ and the Lithuanian National Museum for the fourth festival "My Migration History".

General Information

Currently my main focus is video work. I am offering video filming and editing services to any customers in Lithuania and abroad. My main education is master degree of electronics. I have worked in electronics for about 8 years in England, Guildford. But most of my life I was and partly still am interested in non-formal education, particularly soft skills (personal and social development), Since I was 6 years old I was attending children camps, then youth camps, and later on I participated in many international trainings. Most of them on personal development subject. More about this you can read at www.oldevechte.com This is where my deep personal development journey started. Today I still have a vision of doing something about education in Lithuania. But first step would be documentary movie about soft skills importance in formal education.

Mission and Objectives

At the moment I don't do any organization work. I used to be part of NGO Synergy LT, where we organized personal development trainings in Lithuania and in Europe with partners from other countries. For now I sometimes deliver training program if I am asked.

Main Projects / Activities

At the moment my main focus is to create documentary movie about non-formal education, soft skills development, emotion intelligence, etc. I see it as a first step to bring awareness about how important is to engage kinds from early days to learn self reflection, learning from experience, cooperating, managing conflicts, finding their inspiration, developing emotional intelligence, accepting different believes, etc. There and many other topics are many times talked about outside the schools and formal school doors. But inside it is the place where kinds spend most of their time while passing from kid, to teenager and moving towards adults. But only so little they have to take from that institution called School. I realized it when I attended my firs personal development training in 2003 in The Netherlands. Then I understood how much I missed over those school years. I did not gain any true life skill I was needed when I lest school, or even when I was still growing up. Today there are may non format activities, but they are still outside the school time, and when kinds already are tired from the lessons of the daytime.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

I can deliver personal or organization trainings on various topics. My most favorite is communication, with includes as well conflict management. But there are many more, such as creativity, taking responsibility, team work, As videographer I do run video filming and editing course alive and I have online programs ass well. I could deliver training on video literacy :) Meaning I can teach how to shoot good looking videos on the phone, or professional camera. How to master basic settings on the phone video camera and get most out of it. As well how to edit videos with free available apps Cap Cut on the mobile device or computer. Or how to event edit and create video with professional editing software Adobe Premiere Pro. I would consider some of this program running to members of the network free of charge as my contribution. Or offer significant discount to wider programs. As well I would offer affordable prices for video service to network organizations to promote their activities. As well I could film and create short video for our network events in Lithuania free of charge.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

When I learn that this Network unites like minded people and organizations, who cares about society development, I realized this is the people I want to be surrounded and maybe this ways I will find more team members to start sooner my own ideas about education. Or maybe ever receive some partly funds for this education project. I own domain www.ugdymas.lt and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ugdymas. This is the the platform where I want to spread good practice about non formal education and inspire more and more people to follow and start getting involved or at least support this idea, so one day it becomes part on formal education program with many lessons / workshops where kinds learns not only hard skills, like math, languages, nature science, history, but as well many life, personal, social skill they need in order to become more brave, loving, caring, creating, sharing and cooperating person.
