General Information

Noun Solidarity, first independent Feminist CBO within Aley district in Lebanon. 4 Full time employees, 4 part time employees. Local and Regional partnerships: - Union of Human Rights Defenders MENA region - WE LEAD network - WYPS network (Women, Youth, Peace & security) - Reef network (Reef means rural) - Partnership with the Gender Forum - Participants in the Gender Forum supervision team - Noun established three initiatives: “Talaqi” a Youth-led initiative, “Sawa Bnina” a Women-led initiative, “Kermalkon” an Adolescent-led initiative. Noun usually depends on seeking for grants from International and national donors, and now is developing a strategy for self-funding. Sectors of interventions: - Empowerment: Political, Economic, Vocational, and Legal - Educational courses: Gender Equality in education and parenting, Raising Feminist Awareness, Positive Parenting, Business Management, Marketing, Design - Launching grassroots initiatives: supporting initiatives (Logistics, Knowledge, and financials) - Cultural events - Producing cognitive content

Mission and Objectives

Noun’s mission is to create an effective feminist activism among the Lebanese rural communities, adopting the feminist strategic approach of inclusivity, by reaching out to all groups, identities and backgrounds. Noun’s objectives are: • Building feminist solidarity in rural context • Linking Women and Children to education, trainings, opportunities and vocational empowerment • Achieving effective participation for Women across all fields • Raising feminist awareness • Promoting knowledge about child protection and responding to cases of violence against children • Promoting and disseminating a positive parenting culture • Working with schools and their staff to develop child protection policies, using play as a means of learning about children’s rights

Main Projects / Activities

Sector of interventions and projects: - Empowerment: Political empowerment, Legal empowerment, and Economic empowerment All the above-mentioned programs adopt Arabic programs that provide alternative to the educational attainment, in which it targets primarily women and youth from rural communities who dropped out of education and are working within non-organized sectors or are unemployed. The economic empowerment program consists of two phases Phase 1: Vocational program Phase 2: Educational course (Raising Feminist Awareness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Business Management, Marketing and Graphic Design, Legal frame work for institutional fields) It provides two types of grants: Small grants and/or Graduation kits This project has a follow up plan - On a job training - On field trainings - On market participation. - Raising awareness programs Gender Equality in Education and Parenting program: In this program, we adopt peer-to-peer approach It targets parents, caregivers, and school staff Raising Feminist Awareness program: This program aims to create a free space for feminist analyzing; It redefines concepts, breaks the alienated view of feminist spaces, works to strengthen feminist solidarity, and provides information about: (sexuality, sexual identities, gender-based violence, domestic work, health care, and mental health) The program is developed in Arabic, and relied on content from the local rural context. Supporting local societal initiatives program: This program aims to build the capacities of youth, adolescents and women collectives, willing to launch initiatives that adopts Human Rights standards. Noun established 3 initiatives - “Talaqi”, a youth-led initiative - “Sawa Bnina”, a women-led initiative - “Kermalkon”, an adolescent- led initiative Noun provides its workspace for the above-mentioned 3 initiatives and support them financially - Cognitive production: In corporation with the Gender forum, Noun produced 3 booklets (booklets on the psychological and physiological changes on teenage, and a booklet to answer children sexual questions) During the Corona pandemic Noun launched booklet on Mental and sexual health.

We can actively contribute to the network by - Sharing information about the rural context - Providing the learned lessons and the recommendations - Offering our workspace for activities implementation - Transmitting the local and regional experience in feminist activism - Participating effectively in activities, round tables …etc.
