Catherine Ashton

Baroness Catherine Ashton was appointed as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission as of 1 December 2009. She was European Commissioner for Trade from October 2008 until November 2009 and solved a number of high-profile trade disputes with major trading partners as well as championing trade as a means of promoting development around the world. Previously, Baroness Ashton was appointed Leader of the House of Lords and Lord President of the Queen’s Privy Council in Gordon Brown’s first Cabinet in June 2007.
